Here is one of the American built Grand Trunk Northen locos. This one is an Alco-Schenectady example built in July of 1927 as a class U-3a member. Although not specified on the photo, this appears to be the Elsdon Yard, near 49th and Kedzie in Chicago. (The yard no longer exists.) After nearly 33 years of service, the loco was scrapped in 1960. Specifics - 73" drivers,#impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, 26.25x30" cylinders, engine weight of 399,000 lb, tractive effort of 60,175 lb. The date is approximate and no photogrpaher was listed. |

Great action shot of Grand Trunk Western 4-8-4 #6305 blowing its whistle and heading up a string of boxcars in an unknown Michigan location. Built by Alco-Schenectady in July of 1927, this massive 4-8-4 "Northern" type loco #6305 could easily handle this long string of cars. The loco lasted unti March of 1960 when it was scrapped. Specs - 73" drivers, impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, 26 1/4 x 30" cylinders, engine weight of 399,00 and tractive effort of 60,200 lb. No date, location or photographer was given for the photo. |
