Title:
ATSF 2-6-2 #1804 - Atchison, Topkea & Santa Fe
Description:
Once described as "mainline freight power", an unusual role for the wheel arrangement, this class of Prairie locomotives was built by Baldwin in 1906. Specifics - 1800 class, 69" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 17.5"x28" high pressure cylinders, 29"x28" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 248,200 lb, tractive effort of 34, 846 lb,. The class was superheated in 1920 by Santa Fe shops. In the 1920s, the locos were converted to simple expansion and relegated to branch-line, mixed-traffic and local freight service. Retirements in 1940 and continued until 1955. No location or photographer were listed and the date is approximate.
