East Altoona. Here is an original 35mm color slide (converted to B&W) by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Roundhouse in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1955. Prominent here is an unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad "I" Class (2-10-0) "Decapod" that's heading toward Juniata's 17th Street Bridge. Pictured in the background are numerous snow-capped, soon-to-be-scrapped steam locomotives. In the foreground is a tiny portion of the left-to-right flowing Little Juniata River on its merry way via the mighty Susquehanna River to Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. |
