One of the most unusual slides that Jim Lockart took was this Fort Missoula detention car. Fort Missoula was a WWII "Alien Detention Center" for the non-military Japanese, German and Italian aliens. Between 1941-1944, it held approximately 1200 non-military foreign nationals. This "Alien Detention Center" (ADC) was different from the ten better known "War Relocation Act" camps that held 120,000 Japanese Americans. The car may have been used as additional housing, a detention cell or a library at the camp but not sure about any of these. Can anyone add to this description? |
