Illinois Central mail-and-express train No. 22 was just getting under way at Union Station in New Orleans behind 4-8-2 2451. The train was leaving from one of two temporary platforms, as work was underway to replace Union Station with New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. Union Station was standing in the background, but it and would be torn down in January 1954 and NOUPT formally opened that April. IC 2451 had been built by Alco in 1926 and was scrapped in 1955.
