Louisville & Nashville E8A 797 and an E7A were parked at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal engine terminal, awaiting their 5:15PM departure on the northbound PAN-AMERICAN. About three months earlier, on 4 December 1970, the 797 had been damaged when it struck a loaded dump truck in eastern New Orleans; but as can be seen here, its nose was nicely repaired and repainted. It was retired in May 1972 and used as a trade-in with EMD. (approximate date of photo) |
