Derailment. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 21 May 1965. Shown here is an overall view of the derailment scene and of the clean-up activities. Visible on the left is one of the two derailed locomotives, PRR engine #8890 ~ an AS-10 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. Visible in the center are the two PRR oil-fired, steam-powered cranes working on one of the derailed cars. Visible in the distance (L to R) are the PRR Test Plant Building and the 17th Street Bridge.
