Mid-Mountain. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, during mid-December of 1967. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #4273 and two other "E" units whose numbers were not recorded. All were built by EMD. #4273 is an EP-22 built in 1952. It has been re-numbered in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger; its original number was "5703." They are pulling a passenger train down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Altoona and points East on a frigid, flurry-filled afternoon. |
