PURCELL OK May 1974 -- Amtrak SDP40F 521 leads train 15 on the journey from Chicago to Houston. It was during this month in 1974 that Santa Fe determined Amtrak no longer met expected service standards and revoked the use of the Chief name on Amtrak trains. The train was renamed the Lone Star. EMD built the 521 (b/n 72694-22_ in June 1973. After being traded in to EMD its internal components were used in the construction of F40PHR 367.
