This Monon NW2 switcher was caught by K. C. Henkels as it sat in the Monon South Hammond Yard. Built by EMD in April of 1942 as the Monon began its dieselization, it was a hard working backbone in the Monon yards. When the Monon was taken over by the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, it became their LN NW2 #2203. The loco spent its last days working in the Frankfort, IN, yard. It was officially retired in 1982 and supposedly scrapped. This is from an original K.C. Henkels color slide now in my collection. |
