In the 50’s, CP was definitely beginning to focus on the electrification of some sections of its network. The choice fell on the AC 25kV / 50 Hz technology. With this project in progress it became necessary to acquire new electric locomotives. In March 1955, CP ordered to the Groupment d’Étude et d’Électrification de Chemins de Fer en Monophasé 50 Hz 15 electric locomotives for mixed line services of the B’o B’o type to become the class CP2500. The first two locomotives arrived to Portugal in 1956 from Germany and were manufactured by Henschel. Most of the other units were manufactured in France. The last unit to be withdrawn from service was the 2512 in March 2009. (by sudexpressmodels.eu) |
