Altoona Action. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1968. Shown here (R to L) is Penn Central Railroad engine #4209 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD. #4209 is an E7A constructed as Pennsylvania Railroad number "5849" in August of 1947, rated at 2,000 horsepower, and renumbered "4209" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. In this context, they've just passed under Juniata's 8th Street Bridge on their way to the Altoona Passenger Station and points West. At the right is position-light signal #2344. |
