Description:  BNSF got many SD9s from the BN via the Great Northern and CB&Q. SD9s once locked couplers with steam engines in the 1950s and served making money until current day in 2013. Great Northern SD9s did not have dynamic brake bulges on the long hood. Four remainming SD9s are #1550-1553. A few were turned into slugs, one slug is at Northtown in Mpls MN.

Title:  C&NW SD9 1710
Description:  Chicago & North Western Railway SD9 1710 at Proviso, Illinois on February 14, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 1703 was built in May 1954 ( c/n 19505 ) and was equipped with both a steam generator and dynamic brakes. The short hood was chopped down around 1966, the steam generator was removed in August 1971 and the locomotive was renumbered to 6610. I have no idea about the receptacle below the headlights. It may have provided coach lighting with power from the auxiliary generator.
