Description:
EJ&E DRS-6-6-1500 570 at Joliet, Illinois on February 13, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Baldwin built 82 of this particular model between 1948-1950, including this unit for the B&LE as their Number 401 in January 1949 (c/n 73988). It was transferred to the EJ&E ( the B&LE and EJ&E were United States Steel properties at the time ) in March 1956. It wav powered by a 1500 horsepower eight cylinder model 608SC Super Charged (turbocharged) diesel prime mover, and retired May 1975.

Description:
Sitting in the Joliet yard is EJ&E DRS6-6-1500 #500 built by Baldwin in January of 1949 as Bessemer & Lake Erie #401. It was acquired by the "J" in March of 1956. The loco was finally retired in November of 1975. No date or photographer was listed for the photo.
