Description:
This locomotive started out as Michigan Central #7978 (serial #59648) and was built by ALCo-Schenectady in November of 1918. In 1936, it was renumbered to NYC #1778 as seen here but later renumbered again in July of 1951 to NYC #6347. The loco was retired in September of 1954 and scrapped. Specs - H-6a class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 300,500 lb, tractive effort of 54,720 lb. The photo is from the Howard W. Ameling collection
