Title:
PRR 1071, I-1SA, #1 of 4, c. 1953
Description:
Here is the first of four original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken just East of the 17th Street Bridge in the Juniata section of Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1071, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built in Juniata as an I-1S during November of 1918, rebuilt as an I-1SA in June of 1941, and retired in August of 1959 after 41 years of revenue service. In the foreground is the creek bed for the northern branch of the Juniata River on its way to Tyrone.
